Most picture books take at least a few months to illustrate. Many projects land somewhere in the three-to-four-month range, depending on complexity and pace.
Budget
Costs vary widely based on page count and illustration style. Professionally illustrated books often require a few thousand dollars, with covers usually handled as a separate piece.
Rights & agreements
Illustration partnerships can be structured in different ways. If long-term use of characters matters to you, a Work for Hire agreement is often the clearest path. Illustrator credit is always part of the process.
A quick caution
Extremely low per-page pricing can be a red flag. It may point to AI-generated or non-original work, which often shows up later as inconsistency or technical issues.
